Job Summary
  1. Product deployment (Distributed Energy Resources (DERs)
This investment area has 48 IPC which are implemented through incentives and cost savings which induce customer investment and participation in VPP programs which have demonstrated benefit in GHG emission reduction or avoidance within the CA grid.
* Demand response
* Distributed energy storage
* Electrification of buildings
* Energy efficiency
* Electric vehicle charging
  1. Technology deployment (Information Systems for Distribution System and DER)
This investment area consisting of 5 IPC and includes the following 3 technologies:
* Distributed energy resources management systems (DERMS)
* Pricing products technology to manage real-time pricing for DER
* SCADA
  1. Interconnection of Supply Load
This investment area consists of 252 IPC, which retool the Distribution System for flexible demand response and two-way power flow.
* Distribution capacity
* Substations
* Renewable generation storage (Batteries to manage generation in Distribution System)
* Two-way power flow of generation and storage within the distribution system
  1. Innovations unlocking VPP
This investment area currently consists of 2 individual projects implementing user-facing software and DERMS backend to enable DER VPP participation with increase demand side flexibility and response.

Required Skills/ Abilities
  • Individuals must possess at least 5 years of experience in management of deployment of the VPPs.
  • Must possess demonstrated experience in the oversight of the deployment of distributed energy resources in buildings, facilities, or industrial sites; preferably including remote networking and monitoring of DERs providing grid services through a DERMS; installation; cyberphysical security particularly with regard to consumer-facing issues such as privacy, protection of PII, "smart" and/or grid-interactive equipment and appliances, etc.
  • Information technology (IT) with knowledge of demand response and ancillary grid service requirements under distribution designs to include peak demand management, hardware, software and firmware parameters for effective behind-the-meter operations.
  • Communication and control protocols in the electric sector to include distribution level load data, telemetry, concerning DER delivered performance (output), standardization among multiple host units to monitor and quantify performance across a fleet of installations.
  • Command and control platform which enables metering.
  • Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and other controls across multiple city systems and stakeholders, including utilities necessary for the successful operation and implementation of a VPP within a market region.
  • Ability to travel. Should assume 3 trips in the first year an one trip annually for additional years.

Education
  • Individuals must possess at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, in such fields as one of the engineering disciplines, physical sciences, public or business administration related to technical, manufacturing or construction management.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer.
