Operational Technology Internship



This posting is to fill one internship

  1. POSITION OBJECTIVES

    To provide support through proper installation, testing, and troubleshooting equipment, creating and maintaining procedures and record keeping for the Operational Technology Department, which will provide for the highest level of service reliability; and consistently provide the highest level of work performance in a team oriented environment in accordance with the Cooperative's mission, vision, and values.

  2. Position requirements

    EDUCATION: Must be enrolled in an accredited school, pursuing an Associate's Degree in engineering or related field.

    EXPEREINCE: Experience with basic engineering concepts and windows operating systems similar to those used at Jackson EMC is preferred.

    KNOWLEDGE: Must possess a basic working knowledge of windows operating systems and similar systems to adequately enter data as instructed. Basic mathematical and engineering aptitude in order to carry out basic job related instructions.

    SKILLS: Require the highest level of integrity and possess good personal habits; the initiative to develop an interest in accepting work assignments and be objective, reliable, and prompt in performance of duties; the ability to conduct him/herself in a courteous manner and gain the respect of fellow employees and Cooperative members when work assignments result in contact; the characteristics necessary for providing effective leadership, guidance, training, and direction while developing and building an aggressive and agreeable team spirit among fellow employees and team members; have the ability and skill to apply the required knowledge in learning and performing duties of the position; to operate and care for instruments and equipment; and perform neat and accurate work.

  3. RELATIONSHIPS

    Reports to: Manager, Telecommunication Systems

    Directs: None

    Internal: Shall foster the development of those supportive relationships essential to the fulfilling of the functions of this position, achieving the results expected and encouraging throughout the organization the concepts of teamwork and cooperative spirit.

    External: Shall maintain supportive relationships with member consumers, the general public and other contacts to assure that satisfactory results are achieved.

    Physical activity of the position: Repetitive motions, hearing, talking, feeling, grasping, lifting, pulling, pushing, walking, standing, reaching, crawling, crouching, kneeling, stooping, balancing, climbing.

    Physical requirements: Medium work.

    Visual Acuity: Mobile Equipment Operator.

    Conditions: Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions in extreme heat or cold with noise, vibrations, and/or hazards.

  4. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: To fulfill the objectives of the position the employee so designated shall have full and complete authority to carry out the responsibilities assigned to this position, making all decisions necessary within the limits of approved budgets, policies, and system practices.



Essential functions of the job:

  1. Assist with installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing of controls and electronics for SCADA.
  2. Assist with prepping, painting, and repairing of transformers, regulators, breakers, and reclosers.
  3. Assist with installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing of communications equipment.
  4. Assist with installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing metering equipment.
  5. Participate in special projects requiring technical ability and support.
  6. Provide necessary assistance with creating and maintaining the department's operating procedures.
  7. Assist the department's warehouse during inventory times.
  8. Provide support for the communications systems as needed during extended power outages.
  9. Be familiar with and follow the best safety practices set forth in the Cooperative's Safety Manual.
  10. Attend job training and safety meetings as required or directed.
  11. Attend and participate in annual meeting as needed and available.
  12. Perform other duties as may be required or directed.
