Job Description

ITER is an international fusion research project that will be constructed in Cadarache, France. The seven ITER partners are Republic of Korea, China, Japan, European Union, Russia, India, and the United States. The main objective of ITER is to demonstrate the scientific and technical feasibility of a controlled fusion reaction allowing the production of approximately 500 MW of fusion power for durations of several hundred seconds. As an experimental facility, ITER is intended to allow the exploration of physics scenarios and the conduct of experiments essential to the preparation of a commercial fusion reactor.

The U.S. is responsible for contributing about 9% of the construction cost of ITER. Major components and systems to be contributed by U.S. include the Central Solenoid, the Tokamak Cooling Water System, a large percentage of the vacuum systems, several plasma diagnostics, plasma fueling systems, and plasma heating systems. U.S. responsibility also typically includes the instrumentation and control systems required to monitor, control, operate, and protect equipment, as well as electrical power infrastructure required to power U.S.-supplied equipment.

US ITER is seeking drafting and design support for the preliminary and final design phases of the project. The team currently requiring design support is the Ion Cyclotron Heating (ICH) and Current Drive (CD) Transmission Line (TL) & Matching System (MS). This statement of work (SOW) describes the scope of and performance requirements for design support to be provided.

Scope

Provide 2D drafting, diagram development, and 3D modeling for the above system(s). Activities will include:

1. Reading and working from Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), and drawing "red line" markups

2. Developing routing isometric drawings using Catia V5 CAD

3. Developing fabrication and assembly drawings using Catia V5 CAD

4. Designer must be knowledgeable using Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

5. Creating bills of material and parts lists using MS Office (Excel)

6. Becoming proficient with ENOVIA V5 ITER database (search, read/write)

7. Managing time accordingly with design activities spanning multiple systems

8. Using detailed checking processes on all drawing/document submittals

9. Providing support for other US ITER WBSs as the need arises. Work assignments could include any of the design activities described in the previous sections

1.1 Experience / Education

Candidate should have a two-year associate degree in a related field with at least five (5) years of relevant experience or a high school diploma with eight (8) years relevant experience.

The Designer shall have experience in reading and creating mechanical drawings (section cut, detail view, auxiliary view, iso view), assembly drawings (Exploded views) and piping isometrics. Experience should include knowledge of MS Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

1.2 Skills

The Designer should have relevant expertise and experience using prominent engineering CAD software.

The Designer should be proficient in using Microsoft Office software to generate slides, spreadsheets and summary supporting design documents.

The Designer must be able to communicate well with staff and contractors. They must also be a self-starter, able to work independently and in a team.
