Job Description

SUMMARY

Hennepin Healthcare has a current opening for a Nuclear Medicine Technologist or a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, Senior in our Nuclear Medicine department. This part-time (0.8 FTE) will work rotating 8 hour weekday shifts and on call. Department hours are 7:00am to 4:30pm. The on-call hours are weekdays 4:30pm - 9:00pm and weekends/holidays 7:00am - 4:00pm.

Under the guidance of the Nuclear Medicine Lead and manager, performs a full range of nuclear scans.

RESPONSIBILITIES - BOTH POSITIONS

  • Coordinate and participate in a variety of technical procedures to include in vivo and in vitro studies; operate radiation detection and measurement instrumentation including stationary imaging devices, scintillation gamma cameras and apparatus for in vitro counting
  • Calibrate and draw up radiopharmaceutical materials for administration to patients; formulate radiopharmaceutical materials from pre-prepared kits. Calculate data to include results of patient studies and radioactive decay
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of new procedures and techniques to meet the needs of specific protocols as required: evaluate recorded images for technical quality. Process image computerized image data to include function curves and reconstructed SPECT images
  • Assume care for physical and psychological needs of patient of all ages during an examination, initiates life support measures for patient, if necessary
  • Calibrate instruments and review calibration data to detect trends indicating instrument malfunction. Assist in quality assurance program relating to calibration and maintenance of equipment
  • Administer Radiopharmaceutical therapy to patient that has undergone prior clinical and nuclear medicine diagnosis, insures decay of pharmaceutical and calculates for correct dosage in dose calibrator, observes patient dosage to insure proper treatment under direct supervision of an authorized User
  • Perform Nuclear Cardiology studies including image acquisition, processing and basic patient care
  • Monitor patient for obvious cardiac changes during imaging studies
  • Provide instruction and technical guidance to radiologic technology students or other advanced imaging technologists; assist in training of new employees. Participate in research initiatives and development of research protocols
  • Monitor Nuclear medicine Department with portable Geiger Counter for possible contamination
  • Perform PET/CT studies including image acquisition, processing & basic patient care
  • Support and coordinate organizational requirements for radiation monitoring (film, badges), surveying & consultation for research, meter calibrations and Hazmat events

QUALIFICATIONS - BOTH POSITIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nuclear medicine technology or a graduate of an accredited School of Nuclear Medicine Technology
  • Certification in nuclear medicine technology by one of these accrediting boards: Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) (N), American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) (NM), American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) (NM)
  • Maintains minimum CE credits as mandated by the accrediting body, NMTCB, ARRT, or ASCP
  • Possess current CPR certification or obtain within 4 months of employment

  • Three years of relevant experience
